Total movie tickets sold in Korea has just reached 200 million for the first time
The total number of movie tickets sold in Korea has just reached 200 million for the first time in the history of Korean movie industry.
According to the Korean Film Council, both Korean and foreign films have attracted 202.97 million audiences just past 5:50 pm on Tuesday.
This great milestone is mainly attributed to the popularity of Korean films that attracted more than 100 million locals to the box office for the second straight year, but this year the record was set a month earlier.
Of this year's top 10 most popular films, eight are Korean films-- "Miracle in Cell No. 7," which drew 12.81 million moviegoers, and "The Face Reader," "Snowpiercer," "The Berlin File," "Secretly Greatly," "Hide and Seek," "Cold Eyes," and "The Terror Live."
which were accounted for 59.2 percent of the local box-office sales.
Two Hollywood blockbusters "Iron Man 3" in fourth with 9 million viewers and "World War Z" in 10th with 5.23 million made on top 10 list.
According to the Motion Picture Association of America last year, South Korea was the world’s eighth biggest movie market, ranking behind China and Japan in asia market.
