"Busan Panther"? ... Marvel's upcoming film 'Black Panther' Korean special poster was unveiled

In March of 2017, Marvel studio's ambitious new project 'Black Panther' was filmed in Busan, it was followed by explosive attention from media and South Korea film fans.
The reaction was even hotter because it was the second appearence in Marvel's work after the 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (2015), which caused the worldwide box office syndrome.

The Busan poster, which was unveiled on 12th January, captivates the audience with a new hero black panther standing at Busan city's landmark,Gwangan Bridge in the background.
Although it was possible to get a glimpse of Busan in the film through the previously released 'Black Panther' trailer, this poster is more meaningful because it was specially made for Korean audiences in commemoration of Busan shooting.

The Black Panther also has a new nickname, 'Busan Panther' in this new special video which was released together with poster, contains a delightful dialogue scene between Chadwick Bossman of Black Panther and Letitia Wright who played Shuri, the princess of Wakanda.

Seolhyun vs Sulli, received different reception from Korean cinema audience 2017

Seolhyun and Sulli, actresses from a girl group, have had different screen scores in Korea box office.

The movie 'The Memories of the Murderer, starring AoA's Seolhyun, Seol Kyung-gu and Kim Nam-gil, has been on top of box office since September 6th.
It was not unsettled by the opening of foreign blockbusters such as 'Baby Driver' and 'American Made'.
It scored 157,984 audiences as of September 15th(based on the Integrated Screening System of Cinema Promotion Commission).

The response of critics to the movie is also good. The unique setting and the thrilling story based on the solid original story based on the bestseller of the same name by Kim Young-ha has taken the audience's heart and the actors' hot performances are well received.

It is true that Seolhyun, who has been casted with veteran actors such as Seol Kyung-gu, Kim Nam-gil, and Oh-dal su, has been concerned since casting stage, but has grabbed the hearts of the audience with her passion for the film. "I wanted to break out of the existing image I had,"
Seolhyun puts herself down in a thriller movie that is not easy to challenge, and she was able to go further to the footsteps of the actress Kim Sul-hyun.

Sully, who is considered as representative actress from girl group had to taste a bitter result in the movie she was starring this year. Sully met the audience for a long time with the movie ‘Real’ released in June. ‘Real’ is a big blockbuster with a huge production cost of 11.5 billion invested by Asian stars Kim Soo Hyun and Alibaba Pictures in China.

'Real' also gained great attention for the explicit scenes in which Sulli bravely threw away her idol image and went completely nude.
Unfortunately, the film failed to meet the high expectations and was met with harsh criticism. Netizens are even calling it one of the worst films in Korean history.
It only scored 470,107 audiences, less than half of half of the 3.3 million audience break-even points.

Sully, who acted as a rehabilitation therapist, Song Yoo Hwa, sometimes took a provocative yet sometimes pure character and directed a high level of exposure and truth, but did not attract the charm of the character itself and was only used for male gaze. There are too manyscenes that try to show off the sexual attraction of Song Yoo Hwa.

Three Black & White Korean movies in 2016

One of the latest trend of Korean movie industry this year is producing film in black and white.
In this modern era of 3D, effects-laden movie spectacles, some of Korea’s adventurous directors are making a colorful splash into black-and-white.

"DongJu: The Portrait of A Poet" overcame the limitations of black and white film, and became sleeper hit on the Korean box office earlier this year, banking on the nostalgia of middle-aged moviegoers. The film, that centers around the real-life story of Korea's beloved poet Yoon Dong-ju and his lesser-known cousin and Korean independence activist Song Mong-gyu, attracted 1.16 million people, quite an achievement for a small-budget film.
Director Lee Joon-ik said "since we all remember Yoon Dong-Ju only in black-and-white photos, i shot this film in black and white format to preserve nostalgic image of him,"

"Han River Blues" which debuted on Sep,22 depicted Seoul and people who live in it in beautiful black and white screen.
Film is about a priest who lived for the sake of other people, trying to commit suicide because of a woman whom he loved. Along the way he meets a homeless man named Oh Jang-hyo, a runaway girl from home called Maria, and Choo-ja, a man turned woman.
Maria is the only girl in the family and has the innocence of a teen with a boldness at the same time.
Maria meets the turning point of her life as she lives with a homeless family and throws the message out to the public that life has to be lived no matter what the obstacle is. Meanwhile, Ki Tae-yeong plays the role of a priest.

Upcoming movie "A Quiet Dream" which will be released on Oct,13 was also produced in black and white.
This film will commence the 2016 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), the largest film festival in Asia, which will be held in Busan.
"A Quiet Dream" is directed by Korean-Chinese filmmaker Zhang Lu.
The film humorously shows the story of a young woman who manages a bar and takes care of her unconscious, paralyzed father and the three men who are courting her.
It would be the first Korean opening movie of the BIFF after "Always," a romance movie by Song Il Gon five years ago.

Four Upcoming Korean Summer Blockbusters 2016

Its that time of year again — the Summer movie season is upon us. And the four major domestic film distributors including Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, NEW, CJ Entertainment have gathered to compete at Korean box office this summer.

'Train to Busan,' which will be in theaters on July 20, is the start of a movie season that more than ever is held up by a forest of tentpoles.
Train to Busan is a film about an unknown virus that erupts in Seoul and causes aggression and violence in those it infects. A group of survivors board the KTX bullet train that is headed to Busan, the supposed only safe refuge available. However, their trip isn’t as easy as sitting back and taking the ride.
Directed by Yeon Sang-Ho, Train to Busan stars Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-Seok, and Jung Yu-Mi.
Premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival in the out of competition "Midnight Screenings" category, the apocalyptic zombie thriller received favorable responses for depicting terrified passengers fighting against zombies inside the limited space of a KTX.

Following the 'Train to Busan, "Operation Chromite," will debut in theaters a week later.
"Operation Chromite," starring actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Beom-soo and Hollywood actor Liam Neeson is one of 2016’s most anticipated films .
The movie depicts the amphibious invasion and battle that resulted in a decisive victory for the United Nations Command and turned the tide in the 1950-53 Korean War.
Neeson plays General Douglas MacArthur, who commanded U.N. troops during the war. Lee Jung-jae is Jang Hak-soo, a South Korean navy lieutenant who helps MacArthur.
CJ Entertainment unveiled a teaser poster of the film in May.

New poster and the first teaser have been released recently for disaster film, "Tunnel,"
Tunnel features an all-star cast of heavyweight actors, certainly known to Korean cinephiles audiences: Bae Doo-na (Cloud Atlas, A Girl At My Door), Ha Jung-woo (The Yellow Sea, The Handmaiden), and Oh Dal-su (Veteran, Assassination).
A man is on his way home to his family, when the badly-constructed tunnel he is driving through collapses, leaving him trapped. With draining battery power and a rescue effort that might end before it locates him, he might be left to his own devices to find his way out.
While there might be some disaster-film plot devices familiar to audiences, there are also some strong connections to current Korean events, such as the Sewol ferry disaster (linked to corruption and poor construction/management).

The period film “The Last Princess” has wrapped up shooting, according to its distributor Lotte Entertainment.
Actresses Son Ye-jin and Ra Mi-ran as well as actors Park Hae-il and Yoon Je-moon are part of the film’s cast.
The film, based on the best-selling novel “Princess Deokhye,” centers on the last Joseon princess and the people who try to protect her. Son plays the role of the ill-fated Princess Deokhye.
“It is my second time working with director Hur Jin-ho(Dangerous Liaisons (2012),in 10 years. The film is based on a real person so I felt more responsible,” said actress Son, who worked with Hur in the film “April Snow” in 2005.
