Actress Go Hyun-jung made a big gift for the staffs.

The SBS drama 'Return' debuted as top drama on viewer rating rankings when it first broadcasted on January 17 and is gathering more attention.
Go Hyun Jung plays the role of lawyer for the first time since her debut in this crime thriller about a lawyer and a detective who try to solve the mysterious high-society murder case.

It was recently revealed that Go Hyun Jung has given away a special presents for all of  staffs at the drama scene.

In fact, considering the fact that the shooting of 'Return' has been going on since the early winter until now, she thought of long padding coat as best gift for staffs.
At the same time, she prepared skin care product sets so that the staff could take care of their skin in cold weather.

150 long padding coats and 150 sets of cosmetics have been given away to all the staffs.
Thanks to this, 'Return' drama staffs are all wearing the same long coats at the drama locations.

An official said, "all the staffs appreciated Go Hyun-jung for big surprise gift, and thanks to her, not only were we able to overcame the cold winters, but also the teamwork among staffs improved as well."

Lee Hyo-ri rejects TV commercials other than public campaign ads and PPL

Lee Hyo-ri is rejecting many CF proposals over popularity with JTBC entertainment program 'Hyori's Homestay' which is close to 10% audience rating.

According to an official of the advertising industry, "I think it's almost impossible to cast Lee Hyo-ri nowadays, considering her popularity and stature, she can get about 500 to 700 million won per commercial but she is refusing to appear on any CFs so far." he said.

Over five advertisers proposed CF to her after her comeback. The advertising industry is speculating that if all the contracts were made, the revenue could be over 3 billion won.
Representative of kiwi media group said, "I know that Lee is not willing to appear in any commercials other than public interest commercials." "Since her determination is firm, our company first decline politely if the ad proposal comes in"

On the other hand, Lee Hyo-ri agrees with the PPL that it gets from program production to lessen the burden of the production team. The agency said, "The vehicles that appear in 'Hyori's Homestay' are the PPLs brought by the production team." He added, "She understands the position of the production team who need to cover production costs with PPL as much as possible."

SBS travel entertainment program with Park Ji Sung was put on hold due to terror attack in Spain

 

SBS travel entertainment program, which attracted attention with the casting of Park Ji-sung, was either canceled or perhaps postponed.
The reason for this is said to be due to poor local situation in Spain, which was planned to be the main filming location of the program.

A official of SBS media company said, "Park Ji-sung was trying to leave to Spain with the SBS staffs including Lim Hyung Taek PD who directed 'Running Man' but it was called off due to the recent terror attack in Spain and there is nothing I can say about his new SBS program for now since nothing has been decided yet."

Filming locations of drama 'Fight for My Way'

The secluded high-hill village of Busan is emerging as a hot spot among young people in Korea these days.

It is the Munhyeon-dong in Nam-gu and Hocheon villege in Bumcheon-dong, Jingu-gu in Busan city, which is the location of the KBS 2TV drama 'Ssam, My Way'.

South Korea to Make Remakes of American TV series

The long-running series like Criminal Minds, Good Wife and Entourage will be remade in Korea.

Emmy-winning drama The Good Wife will be the first scripted US television series to be remade in South Korea, after CBS Studios International licensed the format to TVN.
One of Korea’s biggest actress, Jeon Do-Yeon – who has won many awards in her career, including best actress at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival – in the femal lead role with male leads, with Yoo Ji Tae.
“Good Wife” is about a woman, confirmed to be played by Jeon Do Yeon, who assumes responsibility for her family after her husband, to be played by Yoo Ji Tae, is thrown into prison after a very public scandal.    It will premiere on July 8.

Recently Criminal Minds has been added to the sudden slew of American TV shows that are being adapted into Korean dramas.
Next Entertainment World (NEW) group and Taewon Entertainment group are collaborating to bring us a Korean drama remake of Criminal Minds.
NEW group has a history of producing great movies, from Miracle in Cell No. 7 to Roaring Currents. They recently delved into the drama world, and hit gold with the enormously successful Descended From the Sun. Taewon Entertainment group also has an impressive record, producing internationally-loved dramas like IRIS and movies like the Marrying the Mafia trilogy.

USA Network's Suits will be getting a South Korean remake as well.

“Entourage” is a another remake of the American drama of same title that ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2011. starring Seo Kang-joon, Lee Kwang-soo, Sohee and Cho Jin-woong, the drama will revolve around the lives of Korean celebrities. Cho will portray the head of a management agency while Lee is set to play Cha Joon, an actor past his prime.
The broadcast date of the Korean version of “Entourage” has yet to be announced.

South Korea want to mimic the success of "Winter Sonata" with “Descendants of the Sun”

“Descendants of the Sun” is a 16-episodes drama telling a love story between an army captain and a female doctor, who are on a mission together in a fictional war-torn country called Uruk to save lives.
The drama achieved an immense success in Asia especially in China and other part of globe such as middle east even though having only aired 10 episodes so far.
The drama was translated to over 32 languages and it’s expected to gain more popularity with upcoming episodes.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism confirmed the upcomming Hallyu Expo in China and drama “Descendants of the Sun” tour site commercialization plan at Hallyu planning group meeting held at Nuridream Square, Mapo-gu, Seoul on March 31.
Hallyu planning group unveiled the plan to turn filming sites into tourist destinations during a meeting.
The filming locations include 'dal.komm coffee' chain stores around Seoul, Gangwon Jeongseon Samtan art Mines and Taebaek Hanbo mine, Camp Greaves at Paju demilitarized zone(DMZ).

Nami Island, one of filming locations of mega-hit drama "Winter Sonata" which aired on 2002 has been attracting nearly one million tourists annually and the 2013-2014 drama "My Love from the Star" brings some two million tourists a year into South Korea.

The “Descendants of the Sun” was not over, but South Korean and Chinese tourists are already rushing to the filming spots to reenact the romance between the Song couple.

There has been some market speculation that the drama will generate more than three trillion won (2.7 billion US dollars) worth of economic effects.

Prime Minister of Thailand talks about Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun,"

According to the Thai local media, Prayut Chan-ocha who became Prime Minister of Thailand through a military coup against the government called on Thai citizens to watch the Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun,"

At recent Thai government event held on 17th, Prayut said the drama "Descendants of the Sun,"which is mega popular in Korea as well as Southeast Asia and China has a sense of patriotism and sacrifice for one's country.

"What I have seen is that they have included a sense of patriotism, sacrifice, obeying orders and being a dutiful citizen."

"So please watch it and if anyone wants to make such a drama I will financially sponsor it to make people love uncorrupt government officials and make the Thai people love each other."

He also mentioned Song Joong Ki who played male role as Captain Yoo, "He is very handsome and look young but being a captain means having much more responsibility. Therefore, the actual captains are rather looks much older".

The three national television networks will air new dramas on the Wed/Thur slot in spring.
KBS 'Descendants of the Sun' and SBS 'Come Back Mister' will be aired on Feb 24th and MBC 'Goodbye Mr. Black' on Mar 16th.

The Hill of Wind in SBS Drama 'Yong Pal'

Hill of wind which appeared in the final episode of drama 'Yong Pal' is the talk of the town.

In episode 18(final) which aired on Oct 1, Yeo-jin(Kim Tae Hee) survived second phase of liver cancer with the help of Tae-hyun(Joo Won) and chief Lee(Jung Woong-in).

On the way to the windy hill, Tae-hyun carries Yeo-jin on his back and jokes that she’s heavy.

Yeo-jin marvels at how pretty it is, and Tae-hyun sheds a tear before repeating that if a couple shares a kiss here a second time, they’ll never part. And then Tae-hyun goes in for a soft kiss that leads to another and then another.

SBS Wednesday Thursday drama 'Yong Pal' ends with success

It was not bad start for "Yong Pal," and its last episode recorded 20.4% viewership to end as number one drama in its time slot.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the last episode of drama which aired on Oct 1 achieved an 20.4% viewer rating, which is a 2.0% increase from its previous viewer rating of 18.4%.

In last episode, Tae Hyun (Joo Won) is united with Yeo Jin (Kim Tae Hee) surviving the surgery with Tae Hyun as chief of surgery and had happy ending.

The other dramas in this time slot include MBC's “She Was Pretty” (10.2%), and KBS 2TV "God of Trade-Gaekjoo"(6.7%).

KBS's new drama “Producers” took first place in content power rating.

On May 26th, according to CJ E&M contents power index (CPI), Kim Soo Hyun's new entertainment drama “Producers” rated first place in CPI rating.

SBS variety program 'Laws of the Jungle with Friends' continued to dominate as #1 in viewer ratings for its time slot

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the Febuary 27th broadcast of 'Laws of the Jungle' achieved an 13.7% viewer rating, which is actually a 1.9% increase from its previous viewer rating of 11.8%.

"Law of the jungle with Friends" recovered from falling out of the ratings for the past 3 weeks and it was the only show with a double-digit ratings on friday night.

Meanwhile, the same time slot broadcast MBC's 'I Am a Singer 3' recorded 4.3%.

Korean drama hook over 18 million viewers in US

Recent online survey conducted by US office of Korea Creative Content Agency revealed that Korea drama has a lot of fan base from a very wide range of ages and races in the United States.

According to survey conducted through the web for 2 weeks from Oct, 16th, 2304 people answered that they watched the Korea Drama (English subtitles) at least once.

Age group of respondents was the highest in the 16 to 20-year-old 35.9% (827 people). Followed by 21~ 25 years old 22.6% (521 people), more than 46-year-old is 10.3% (238 people), 26 ~ 30 years old was 9.9% (227 people).

Among racial group of respondents, Asian (such as China, the Philippines and Vietnam) is the most common in 29% (669 people), Hispanic 18.9% (435 people), African-9.0% (209 people). Korean was only 4.4% (99 people) among the respondents.

55.7% (1283 people)of respondents used DramaFever, which claims to be the largest importer of prime-time Korean drama, followed by Viki 25.7% (591 people), Hulu 4.2% (97 people), Netflix 1.7% (38 people).

Favorite Korean drama 'Top 5' among respondents was 'Boys Over Flowers" (KBS2), "You who came from the stars (SBS)", "Secret Garden (SBS)", "Coffee Prince" (MBC), "Master's Sun"(SBS).

US office of Korean Creative Content Agency analyzed that over 18 million American viewers are watching Korean drama considering the percentage of American users on Internet streaming sites.

Despite of sunken ferry national tragedy, MBC's 'Empress ki' will air as scheduled this week

Since last wednesday all major Korean TV networks — KBS, SBS and MBC as well as cable channels tvN, Mnet, OnStyle, XTM, JTBC —canceled all variety and drama programming due to Ferry Tragedy that has drowned South Korea in sorrow.

It's been six days since sunken ferry tragedy took place in Jindo, Korea and MBC has decided to go back to its regular programming shedule for its dramas along with special news report for ferry incident.

Primetime Monday-Tuesday drama 'Empress ki' and Wednesday-Thursday dramas 'Cunning Single Lady' will air on regular schedule.

MBC still has not decide to go back to regular program schduele for its varity and entertainment shows  and will stick with flexible policy with its most of programs schedule to combine with sunken ferry newsflash for this week as well.
