The sale of Jeju dog heats up competition among hunters and dog lovers in Korea
In 2017, the competition rate for the sale of Jeju dog was 27.55 to 1.
Hundreds of applicants were attracted to the lottery contest held in Jeju Provincial Livestock Promotion Center on the 11th.
A total of 551 applicants were admitted to the sale auction of 20 Jeju dogs (male 14, female 6).
The Livestock Promotion Agency plans to check the breeding environment through live inspection within 10 days for the 20 pre-sale candidates selected through lottery, and decide whether to final sale through interview.
After the sale, they will also make regular monthly inspections.
The price for a dog is 50,000 won($45).
It is said that the Jeju dogs which are originated from china is believed to have settled in a unique environment of Jeju island since 3,000 years ago.
Jeju dogs are gentle but behaves agile and has excellent talents for hunting wild animals with excellent hearing, smell and sight.
Jeju dogs are similar in shape and color to Jindo dogs, but Jindo dogs have their tail raised, while Jeju dogs have a nearly straight tail. The body length of the grown Jeju dog is 49 ~ 55㎝, the weight is 12 ~ 16kg and the life span is around 15 years.
Meanwhile, Jeju Island is preparing to designate Jeju dog as a natural monument of national designated cultural assets along with Jindo dogs and Sapsal dog of Korea.
