Galaxy Gear degraded to the status of a free giveaway in UK.
The Galaxy Gear hasn’t been a huge success for Samsung, mostly due to the smartwatch’s high price and limited functionality, short battery life which only lasts a day or two(and that's if you switch it off when you're not using it). and now one U.K. retailer is actually giving the wearable device away for free with each new Galaxy Note 3. Phones 4u’s week-long promotion is good at most of the company’s physical stores through Nov. 14, though you’ll have to buy the phablet on-contract to receive a free smartwatch.
It’s unclear if the promotion is an effort to move unsold Galaxy Gear units, sell more copies of the Galaxy Note 3 or both. One thing’s for sure though, Samsung’s first smartwatch has been a flop so far. The device earned some harsh reviews early on, and a leaked internal document from Best Buy even revealed that more than 30 percent of customers who bought one returned it soon afterwards.
The Galaxy Gear features a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.9-megapixel camera, two microphones, a speaker, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and about a day’s worth of battery life. It only worked with the Galaxy Note 3 and new Note 10.1 at launch, though Samsung is updating its recent flagship phones to sync with the Gear as they get Android 4.3.
