EXO, most popular k-pop group of 2013

EXO took top spot at MBC's 'Show! Music Core', one of popular k-pop weekly show in Korea on Dec 14.
EXO continues to show why they are the most famous k-pop group of 2013 with their new single "Miracles in December".
The first place nominees were Seo In Guk & Zia, EXO, and Hyorin

There seems to be a trend in K-pop this December, with ballads and darker-themed music ruling the charts, while happy and upbeat concepts are flopping.
That would explain some of the latest chart positions, like T-ara’s “What Should I Do?” tanking right after the success of “No. 9,” Crayon Pop and Nine Muses’ latest singles failing to match the success of their predecessors, and the current poor digital performance of SECRET’s “I Do I Do”.
On the other hand, stuff like miss A’s “Hush,” 2NE1′s “I Miss You,” EXO’s “Miracles In December,” VIXX’s “Voodoo Doll,” and Hyorin’s solo music are all doing very well,

In Oct, EXO was ranked #1 in the most popular boy band of 2013 category on article published by Popular Korean media outlet, Dispatch, which wasn’t much of a surprise. They swept the charts with their last single, “Growl,” and their XOXO album and its repackaged version have sold almost a million copies combined in less than five months. They’re also known for having a rabid fan base in both Korea and China.
