National museum of modern art opened its another gallery in Seoul


The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea unveiled its Seoul branch on Tuesday with an opening ceremony that was attended by hundreds of artists and cultural leaders, as well as President Park Geun-hye.


"I ask for concerted efforts by all of you to help this museum play a role in promoting rich Korean culture to the world. I hope it becomes a popular destination where global artists visiting Korea can share their artistic and aesthetic sensibilities."


The museum is the third branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, following the main branch in Gwacheon city and another branch in royal Deoksugung Palace.
Each branch has its own focus in terms of function and the exhibitions it hosts.
The newly-opened Seoul branch will center on integrative new media art pieces and more approachable exhibit programs for the public.
To commemorate the opening of the museum, five special exhibitions are being held in a total of eight exhibition rooms in the three-story building, with around 70 Korean and foreign artists participating.
The museum will be open to the public every day, except Mondays.
Every Wednesday and Saturday, it will be open for free until 9 p.m.
