Downside of living in high-rise apartment buildings in South korea

Luxury high-rise apartment such as centum city, marine city at haeundae district in busan city or tower palace at gang nam district in Seoul, are the products of an ego-led contest between ambitious super-rich men, cities and countries.
When you live in a city of 11.2 million people, the space has to be utilized in a very methodical manner.
Seoul's living mainly consists of low and high rise apartments to better accomodate all of these people living in such a small area.
But someone went too far with idea of luxurious high rise living life in korea , and started building so many of them in and out of seoul for last decade. Before year 2000,there weren't many high rise apartments like today.
Thus there has been many problems popping up for peopel living in luxury high-rise aprartments.

Marine city of busan, with its heavily glazed, all-glass building, it might look beautiful outside but for people actually living in it. it's pain to keep skyrocketing maintenance fee under control. there is a high environmental cost to all that glitter: increased energy consumption.
Fatal disadvantage with all-glass building is its energy inefficiency, it's much hotter in summer and much colder in winter time.
Expenses of these apartments in the spring and fall are 10,000 won per square meter, and in the summer time, it skyrockets to no limit due to Air conditioning in the summer, it can reach up to 2000 us dollars for middle sized apartment and up to 3000$ for big ones accoring to residents living there. Not rent, but talking about maintenance fees here.
Many residents spend as much time as possible outside during daytime to save maintenance fees. Parents tell their childern to go out play or send them to academy after school to keep them away from home during daytime because they can't afford to turn on air conditioning allday.

There are many problems other than just soaring maintenance fees. There is no or less ventilation at these apartment because they only allow you to open your window about 20cm at most. Meaning that your neighbors knows what you ate for dinner. and since these apartments exteriors are made of all-glass, it doesn't guarantee your privacy in any way. There can be creeper standing by his window just watching you doing some free peep show for him. To say that you have to become aware of your surrounding is an understatement.
These high rise, all-glass building in busan causes other environmental issue as well.
According to local press, number of birds hitting the windows of these apartments are increasing nowadays so that you can find 20~30 dead birds scattered around apartment complex every morning.
Birds mistaken huge glass wall for sky.  Even at night, when reflections are minimal, lighted windows from this high rise building can be disorienting to migratory birds causing them to collide with skyscrapers

In order to show off dignity and class, many korean buy house on debt, rather than builing human friendly environments, they built strange community of people who are put together in pursuit of profits,greed, and vanity.
